Urban Decay Vice 2 Palette: Review + Swatches

I am enamored with the Urban Decay Fall 2013 collection, particularly the Vice 2 Palette.  I found myself passing over the original Vice last year, but the Vice 2's collection of jewel tones and deeper colors drew me in.

The packaging is very sturdy, and rather slim.  It's only about half an inch thicker than the original UD Naked palette, and about twice as wide.

The packaging is a mixture of plum, fuschia, and gray colors. How pretty!

The palette contains a good-sized mirror that stays open on its own.

The Vice 2 is mostly shimmer, but contains three matte shades (X-rated, Habit, Rewind) for a total of 20 shadows.  It's a fantastic mixture of deep, bright, and neutral tones to suit any occasion.  My personal favorite colors are Madness, Voodoo, and Damaged.

It also includes this double-ended, synthetic brush.  I found the blending side a little difficult to work with, but the synthetic bristles on the "paddle" side did a good job of depositing product without absorbing it.  The fibers feel a bit like plastic.

Swatches here are done on NW40 skin without primer:

Left to right:  Smokeout, Lovesick, Shellshock, Coax, X-Rated

Prank, Madness, Strike, Stash, Poison

Radar, Damaged, Voodoo, Betrayal, Derailed

Dope, Toxic, Habit, Ambush, Rewind

Overall, I give this palette an 8/10 rating.  The shadows are wonderfully pigmented, and the packaging is practical and sturdy.  The only minor issue I have is the brush, but it's won't be much of a problem if you switch it out for one of your favorites.

The Vice 2 Palette retails for $59 and is available at Sephora, Ulta, and UrbanDecay.com.  Will you be picking it up for the holiday season?
